You’ve been watching Summer Break right?!
Right then and there my heart sunk. How could I have forgotten about the drama that fills my summer vacation?! The mini show that sustains my attention span?!
For all of you who don’t “watch YouTube videos”, this will change your mind. Summer Break is a mini series on YouTube (they are currently on season 5) that follows the life of a group of teenagers in LA. The group changes every year and the members range from the ages of 16-18. But don’t expect the series to be all rainbows and butterflies. No, it’s not. What do you think will happen when you are put with the same 10 people all summer who you may or may not know; drama, great road trips, & many tears.
Before I expose too much, here is my list of 5 reasons why I’m obsessed with Summer Break:
#1. The PERFECT length of Summer 3 times a week
Each episode ranges between 10-25 minutes. Maybe it’s my teenage brain, but this is the perfect amount of time for a show. That’s not it! Because the episodes are so “short” they post a new episode 3 times a week (every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday).
#2. It’s like blogging…from multiple conflicting points of view
I love watching vlogs. A lot of the time, I walk around my house pretending to be a vlogger myself. Now imagine a show where multiple vloggers are combined and they sometimes have contradicting ideas and point of view. I find it so interesting to see every side to the stories in each episode.
#3. So. Relatable.
Every summer while I watch Summer Break, I never think anything of it. If I’m being honest, I am always envious of how amazing their summer is and the opportunity they got. Yet something changed when I watched it this year. This year, the show is the most relatable thing I have ever seen. It’s as if I am watching the life and times of my high school. The way they are talking about their future, saying they don’t know what they want… that’s me! The way they have boy problems in every episode…again, that’s me. I just feel as if I am watching me and my friend group, and it’s strangely addicting.
#4. The cast is goals
I love the cast every year, but this year, in particular, the cast is adorable.
Amindi: has the most wonderful voice (I downloaded all of her music and Pine & Ginger is my new bop…I even added it in my last blog post), and gives off the vibe that she knows who she is and where she is going #goyou
Jack: the funny guy who’s always livening things up
Ivy: the gorgeous gal who can sing like Ariana Grande and is very understanding (@ jack no one would stick through that)
JaboyJack: the guy you’d want to be best friends with
Cairo: an overall good time (just trynna have a good summer that’s all!)
Lena: is a theater kid and isn’t afraid of being her self 🙂
Nastasya: The lit one who is not only a model but amazing rhythmic gymnast!
Maya: who is the cutest one of them all, & someone you would want to be best friends with
Harlan: the ultimate LA boy (who is also an amazing artist)
Jite: not only does she have an amazing voice, but she is not afraid to use it through talking about racism and world issues #fuckyeah
#5: I’m Broke, So It Allows Me To Live Lavishly Through Their Adventures
I do not have the time or money to do half of the things the cast does on the show. With 2 jobs and a social life, I am unable to randomly go to a cottage for a week. You know how I do? I basically am getting my fill in by living through their videos. Honestly, I have no shame!
So dear Summer Break,
Thank you for making this masterpiece!
All the love,
