I lied. I did not read this book in a  week, yet bear with me….I had to share my thoughts on this amazing novel!

I read the Elegance of the Hedgehog this past year, and it is by FAR the utter most best novel I have ever read.

I have this issue where I pick up a book and fight to make it through the entire story. It simply  doesn’t intrigue me! With Muriel Barbery’s The Elegance of the Hedgehog, I found that I couldn’t put the bloody book down! Where ever I went all I could do was wonder how the story line progresses!

The book is written in two points of view. From a 12 year old girl and from the perspective of an aging lobby lady.  Both of these characters take part in the scene of a Parisian high brow apartment building where chic is not out of the question. By different font styles to their status in society,  we come to realize that these two characters are quite different from who they appear to be.

To society they either seem depressed (12 year old girl) or unintelligent from their position in the working world (lobby lady). As the plot progresses from both point of view, the “identities” of the two main characters seem to disappear until they become their own.

This novel not only has wit and charm yet is also jam packed with hidden messages about the way that society works as a whole in the modern world.

Intriguing plot line:

  • 9.5/10

Good read value:

  • 10/10 (I beg of you read this novel!!)

Speed read estimate:

  •  4 days to 3 weeks, chapters vary from a page to 60. All depends on the eyes of the beholder 😉

Hope you enjoyed that brief summary. I could NOT give too much away (not even their names) , just see for yourself how amazing it is! Just a reminder that next week I changed the novel from Wheat Belly (quite controversial) to Me Before You By Jojo Moyes! Stay tuned to next week for my views on the upcoming film!

that’s all for now,
